US & Japan: An Alliance Made Stronger by Differences
Nagoya, May 10 - After first outlining the broad differences between Japan and the United States, Prof. Mike Mochizuki, George Washington University, took that premise and turn it on its head, revealing just how much in common the two countries have. He said that the U.S. and Japan share a similar view of Asian security and trans-Pacific trade. The differences (including views on history and values) were real and profound, he noted, but the commonalities were unshakable. He encouraged Japanese and Americans to "respect differences and build a common dream based on these differences."
