Japan's Soft Power through Midwestern Eyes
Nagakute, November 8 - Nagoya American Center Director Jonas Stewart met with Aichi Prefecture University students to discuss the concept of soft power. He explained that soft power is a theory used to describe the ability of a country to influence audiences indirectly through cultural or ideological means. Mr. Stewart shared his observations about Japan's soft power's effect on average Midwestern Americans through J-pop music, anime and high-tech gadgetry. After the discussion, students asked questions about Mr. Stewart's experiences as a newcomer to Japan and provided ideas for future American Center programs directed toward Japanese college students.
