Challenges in Burma
Nagoya, December 11 - Brian Joseph, director of South and Southeast Asia Programs for the National Endowment for Democracy, discussed the current state of Burma with an audience at the Aichi International Plaza. Mr. Joseph explained the historical trends in Burmese politics that have led to the latest wave of civil unrest. He also outlined the development of the democratic opposition in Burma as well as the current human rights situation. He then finally laid out the arguments to sanction or to engage the Burmese government. The Aichi International Association cosponsored this event.
