Putting a Human Face to the Abstractness of War
Kasugai, December 12 - U.S. Consulate Nagoya Principal Officer Daniel Rochman delivered remarks at the opening ceremony for the “Tokyo 1945” photograph exhibition at Chubu University. Clifford McCarthy (1921-2003), a Professor of Art at Ohio University, took pictures of war-torn Tokyo while he served there as a U.S. airman only two months after the end of World War II. The McCarthy family has generously donated these photos to Chubu University. Looking at the photographs, Mr. Rochman concurred with Mr. McCarthy's statement that when one looks at the faces of the people in these photographs, the abstractness of war disappears and the humanity that we possess emerges.
