Expert Discusses the Rise of China's Military Power

Nagoya, January 30 - Mr. Roy Kamphausen, Vice President for Political and Security Affairs at the National Bureau of Asian Research, spoke about China's growing military presence in front of a full house at the Aichi International Plaza. Mr. Kamphausen discussed the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) modernization efforts, dynamics within the PLA, the international role of the Chinese military and finally what these changes mean for the United States and its allies. Mr. Kamphausen asserted that, despite increasing U.S.-China military cooperation, the U.S.-Japan security alliance remains the bedrock of stability in East Asia.

Chukyo University Associate Professor Koji Furukawa moderated the event. The Aichi International Association cosponsored the event.
