Nagoya, May 23-25 - U.S. Embassy Charge d'Affaires James P. Zumwalt visited Nagoya for a weekend of activities to promote the U.S.-Japan relationship.
On Saturday, the Charge Zumwalt attended the American Chamber of Commerce Japan (ACCJ) Chubu Chapter reception where he recognized the efforts of the Greater Nagoya Initiative and local governments for their work to promote American investment in Central Japan.
On Sunday, the Charge along with Nagoya Principal Officer Max Kwak and other officials attended the ACCJ Chubu Chapter’s 18th Annual Charity Walkathon fundraiser at Nagoya’s Tsuruma Park.
The Walkathon is the region’s largest American-initiated fundraiser for local charities. This year’s Walkathon was held for the first time at Tsuruma Park to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
Following the Walkathon, the Charge toured the Nagoya Boston Museum of Fine Arts’ latest exhibitions: “Gauguin,” and “100 Years of Noritake.”
He then had the pleasure of attending a very close but victorious Chunichi Dragon’s game at the Nagoya Dome.
On Monday, the Charge called on Nagoya’s newly elected Mayor Takashi Kawamura.
At this meeting, the Charge congratulated Mayor Kawamura on his recent victory and discussed the strength of U.S.-Japan ties in Central Japan.
