Expert Discusses Trilateral Security Cooperation in East Asia

Nagoya, August 10 - Washington College Associate Professor Andrew Oros gave a presentation on US-Japan-China trilateral security cooperation for a group of business people, reporters and students at the Nagoya American Center.

Dr. Oros discussed the importance of the United States, China and Japan working together as a trilateral force to confront regional and worldwide issues such as nuclear proliferation and the protection of sea routes.

He identified a current move toward stronger bilateral ties between US-China and US-Japan relations as a force that could potentially promote rivalries and become a roadblock to trilateralism.

Following his remarks, Dr. Oros answered several questions from the audience about the rise of China and Japan’s future role in East Asian security matters.

He commented that Japan's role in East Asian and world security matters must be defined by the Japanese people.
