Expert Discusses U.S. Policy toward the Korean Peninsula

Shizuoka, September 29 - Dr. John S. Park, Senior Research Associate at the U.S. Institute of Peace, gave a lecture on the Obama Administration’s policy toward Korean Peninsula.

Dr. Park commented that North Korea’s nuclear proliferation is a major concern for the U.S., and that the regime’s uncertain future complicates U.S. dealings with Pyongyang as well as those of U.S. friends and allies in Asia.

Following Dr. Park’s presentation, Professor Hajime Izumi of the University of Shizuoka discussed North Korea’s reaction to the Obama Administration.

About 250 people listened to their views taking notes. The program was cosponsored by the Society for the Study of Politics and Economy in Shizuoka, the Shizuoka Shimbun and Shizuoka Broadcasting System.
