The American People Remembers March 11

Ms. Pace Speaks at NAC

March 7, Nagoya - Ms. Janet Pace, Executive Director of the Louisiana Serve Committee, spoke on “the Lessons Learned from the Hurricane Katrina.”

Commemorating one year anniversary from the 3.11 Eastern Japan Earthquake, the program started with a moment of silent prayer.

From the experience of the recovery from the Katrina, Ms. Pace explained the important roles of NPOs and universities in disaster and recovery, and how to coordinate with the government.

She also referred to the mental health care of those who support the recovery as volunteers, saying that it is a marathon, not a sprint, and the volunteers have to take care of themselves to avoid too much compassion fatigue.

The Aichi audience including volunteers and students was very interested in Ms. Pace’s advice on how to support the recovery in a distant affected region
